Closing the Gap – a Win for all

On behalf the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney General, Quadric performed an upgrade to the Youth Justice Centre Building in Cherbourg.  The project consisted of structural modifications, external earthworks, internal alterations, security services, and custom joinery.  A key driver for the project was Indigenous economic participation, training, and community development.

Quadrics Managing Director Ben Scott points out that projects like this are provide benefits for all parties.  “From a cost control point of view, the use of labour resources who do not have to travel can offer the client better value, from a corporate social responsibility side we can offer experience & training that fosters sustainable economic growth for local communities.”

With the assistance of the Local Aboriginal Council and several training providers, the project target of 20% Indigenous Employment and Training being exceeded by almost double; and with the project delivered on time, on quality, and below budget, all project participants are considering this a big success.

Quadric Foreman on the project, Julian Desland commented, “I enjoyed the experience, the guys were eager to learn, hardworking and did top quality work. They valued the opportunity to work with us and after the first week wanted to know if there was overtime.  As a nature lover they taught me about the native plants and animals in the region, I like to think they taught me as much as I taught them.”

As part of “The Quadric Project – a social initiative”, Quadric will continue to engage in projects of high social value.  Peter Kowald Commercial Director explains,’ Over the years Quadric has built a reputation by partnering in our local industry. Now that Quadric are expanding its base operations we are moving this model to the local communities whether it be a remote community or just around the corner.”

Quadric supports the work of the ‘Close the Gap Coalition’, “a grouping of Indigenous and non-Indigenous health and community organisations — together with nearly 200,000 Australians is calling on governments to take real, measurable action to achieve Indigenous health equality by 2030”.

Rickshaw Run

The Quadric Project is proud to sponsor the ‘Gentlemen of Darjeeling’ team of the Rickshaw Run.

“Imagine the quietest, fastest, safest all-terrain vehicle in the world…Now imagine the opposite. Three wheels, half a horse power and more fun than any other vehicle on planet earth, the humble Rickshaw is undoubtedly the ultimate long distance, off-road machine. Despite being designed for short distances on road.

Now imagine the bliss of trying to get this untrusty steed over the Himalayas or across the Rajasthan desert. This then is the Rickshaw Run; an unsupported maniac of an adventure which wobbles over thousands of miles of ridiculous terrain. Probably the stupidest and the best thing you could possibly do with two weeks.”

Result:  $3000 was raised for Fred Hollows Foundation and Frank Water Projects.

RSPCA Cupcake Day

Fight animal cruelty with cupcakes!

The Quadric Project is proud to support Milena Butovski’s Cupcake Day two years running.

By registering, baking and fundraising for Cupcake Day for the RSPCA, you are part of an exceptional group of supporters who understand the importance of pets in our lives. The cupcakes help give a surrendered puppy a home, rescue a neglected pony, provide emergency surgery to an injured kitten and save thousands of lives.

Funds raised from Cupcake Day go back to help the shelters, clinics, Inspectors and animals in your home state. For example: if you are raising funds in Tasmania, your donations will help RSPCA Tasmania.

Nationally, the RSPCA received less than 3% of its funding from government so fundraising initiatives like Cupcake Day are vital to increasing donations and awareness of the fight to prevent animal cruelty.

How your cupcakes can change lives:

$10provides an enrichment toy for a cat which assists in their behavioural development

$30provides bales of hay to feed the farm animals in our care

$40microchips a cat or dog to ensure that they always find their way home

$50subsidises the emergency boarding costs of the animals of victims of domestic violence*

$60provides warm bedding, heat pads and lamps to keep a puppy warm

$100subsidises medical treatment for an injured dog or cat

$200keeps an RSPCA Inspector on the road fighting cruelty

The Quadric Project donated $301 in 2012 and $200 in $2013, $500 in 2014, and $750 in 2015 =  Total $1751

Logan Education Bursary

Tertiary Education Bursary

For the second year Quadric was invited to be involved in the Logan City Tertiary Educational Bursary Program in 2012.
Logan City Council and some of the most respected professional service organisations in South-East Queensland havecombined their resources to provide an opportunity for young people in Logan City wishing to undertake tertiary studies.

The aim of the bursary is to provide a source of financial assistance to young adults who are completing grade 12 and who have demonstrated sufficient commitment to be successful at tertiary studies. In particular, the bursary will be made available to students from families whose own financial resources are limited.

The Bursary is $3,000 for each student, spread over the first two to three years of the student’s course, depending on the study format of their course. Each annual payment is split into two or three instalments for each semester or trimester of the year.

The Quadric Project was excited to take over this opportunity and Ben Scott (Quadric Project Advocate) was pleased to be able to not only present the award but also to connect with the students.

Funding Amount: $3000
