Revealing Mephisto

Quadric is excited to reveal Mephisto to the public when the Anzac Legacy Gallery opens; a new permanent exhibition at Queensland Museum that explores the impact and legacy of the First World War on Queensland and the brave sacrifices made by our diggers.

“A book on the daring capture of a German WWI tank by Australian soldiers in France has been released to coincide with the 100th anniversary of one of the conflict’s most legendary exploits.

Ranking among Australia’s most precious trophies from the Great War, the German A7V Sturmpanzer still affectionately known by its battlefield name Mephisto, was seized from no man’s land under the nose of the enemy.

It is set to go on permanent display at the Queensland Museum in November to coincide with the centenary of the Armistice.

“It’s unique, it’s the only one of it’s kind in the world, but it also speaks to the war and the people who were involved in the war,” said Geraldine Mate, Queensland Museum’s curator.

“I don’t think you can put a value on it. It’s a pivotal moment for the gallery because Mephisto has spent 98 of its 100 years in Queensland.”

Saturday Indesign

Brisbane 2012 Saturday in Design provided the stage for the transformation, from the Steelcase Inspiration Office furniture showroom into an ethereal dream space.

Combining the enthusiasm and next wave of design talent from QUT students with Wooheads project planning skills, a little know how from Quadric, and a can do solution from Hireach, the result was this BiD dream becoming a reality.

The dream field was created utilising the simple tools of sting and sand, clips and card to create a canopy of overhead “leaves”. Each leaf provided a canvas for participants to record their dreams.

Reminiscent of tibetan prayer flags, gently wispering their wishes to the wind, the result was a spectacular dream space.

A Brisbane inner-city uni campus fitout challenge

10 July 2011

Designer and builder successfully joined forces to overcome the challenges of constrained budget and timeline to complete the interior reconstruction of the Central Queensland University’s (CQU) Brisbane campus……

The fit-out of the 8-storey building at 160 Ann Street, Brisbane, cost $6.5million and was completed in February 2011.

Typical educational elements define the building, including lecture theatres, classrooms, computer labs and library.

Brisbane-based building company Quadric and architects Figure & Ground collaborated and adopted an accommodation model that enhanced the floor plan layout in a vertical sense, rather than the traditional, horizontal adjacency of most educational facilities.

Quadric Executive Director Ben Scott praised the design theory.

“Quadric then used innovative joinery solutions, combining natural light, bold colours, and custom-designed furniture, to basically stack spaces on top of each other, to create a layout that maximised the time student and staff would intermingle.

“The result is a very modern, very functional facility that meets the design brief.”

Scott said this collaborative approach between the clients, designer and builder was essential for completing the project.

“Having a cohesive project team is the single most important factor in ensuring a project’s success and CQU’s Brisbane campus is evidence of this effect,” he said.

“This project tested all our expertise, and above all demonstrates the art and value of teamwork.

“We celebrate together with CQU, the transformation of an idea into a built reality.”
