At the stroke of midnight on Sunday 25 August 2024 Queenslanders will say farewell to The Star’s Treasury Casino as it moves from the magnificent Treasury building Brisbane after 29 years as caretaker. Having helped the Star Entertainment with many projects over the years, we were pleased but also a little sad to assist with the decanting of furniture and equipment over to Queens Wharf.

The Treasury Building has been a symbol of the development and progress of Queensland ‘s history. The Queensland Government Cabinet met in the building until 1905, when the Premier’s Department moved into the Executive Building (subsequently known as the Lands Administration Building) in George Street. Government offices continued to occupy the building in one shape or form until the late 1990s when it was sold and converted into what is now known as Treasury Brisbane’s casino, after the Registrar-General moved out.

A new owner will soon be announced as we look ahead to the highly anticipated first phase of opening of TheStarBrisbane on Thursday 29 August. Gaming operations will cease at 11.00pm and the property will close totally an hour later at midnight. Treasury Hotel will remain open after this date with both part of the nine heritage buildings that make up the QueensWharfBrisbane precinct.

As the proud custodian of the state-owned Treasury and Land Administration Buildings, $57 million has been spent on repurposing, restoring and maintaining these historic assets, including $5.6 million spent on stonework preservation which won the 2008 and 2014 Queensland Heritage Council Gold Award.

Quadric’s relationship with Star Entertainment is one that has endured the test of time, often as a result of the need to work together to deliver projects within an environment quite unlike any other in our city.
