Epic Race

June 13, 2010 | | Practice

The upcoming challenge for Team Quadric is to conquer the Flight Centre Epic Mountain Bike Race. The award winning Flight Centre cycle Epic is a great mountain biking tradition that began in 2002 with a bunch of mates challenging themselves on a 117km epic trail ride…….

This years gruelling 75km course will ba a tough ask for the 4 (possibly 5) souls lucky enough to don the Team Quadric Jersey. The bookies are already tipping Burnsy to sit in Lee’s draft the whole race, and at the last minute come in first. Also look for a close tussle between Ben and Bluey further down the pack ( who both consider having kids is a perfectly valid excuse for not getting up to train on those cold mornings). The potential late contender for a start is Bryce, who may have agreed to enter during a state of artificial courage at the pub. Will this mystery rider leave us all for dead?

The Flight Centre Epic MTB Marathon has the disctinction of being the first marathon in the history of Australian Cycling. The 75km race starts on Old Hidden vale, following a demanding course made up of single track, farm and two small sections of sealed roads. The main event starts from Spicers Hidden Vale Retreat and heads west out of the property. Riders continue over Red Gap and into the Mulgowie Valley. Riders then north along Mulgowie Road before turning east and climbing the Little Liverpool range into Old Hidden Vale.
