QUADRIC EX ROBOTICA

The St Peters Lutheran College Robotics Team have returned from the National FTC Robotics competition in high spirits.

FTC (First Tech Challenge) teams are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete head to head and make alliances with other teams. Participants develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles (like keeping an engineering notebook), while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards. Each season concludes with Super-Regional Championships and an exciting championship competition.

42 of the best teams from the state competitions were selected to attend the National competition in Sydney, and The Flaming Galahs not only qualified to attend but also achieved a 5th place.  They won four out of five of matches and were awarded as Finalist in the Contral Award.

“This award is given to the team that demonstrates innovative thinking to solve game challenges such as autonomous operation, improving mechanical systems with intelligent control, or using sensors to achieve better results. The control component should work consistently in the field.”

Quadric is proud to have supported the team with parts and mentoring.  It is a pleasure working with such brilliant young minds and we are excited to see how their next challenge goes: the FRC competition.  The robots that FRC teams build are much larger and more complex. To make up for this size difference, FRC teams are usually larger and usually cost more to operate than FTC teams.

Quadric are a multidisciplinary building company, with a successful 40+ year industry history. Originally established specifically to provide fitout and refurbishment services, Quadric are uniquely structured to offer a largely in house service.

Our portfolio of past work is spread over $1Billion, and 850,000,000 sqm of award winning commercial interiors and, it is on these foundations, Quadric have built a well-known and respected industry reputation, providing efficient and reliable fitout services consistently delivering highly satisfactory project outcomes for the key deliverables of control, cost, time and quality.

A multifaceted career celebrated

Quadric celebrates the work life of Steve Smythe who retired in December.  The big man with the big heart commenced at Quadric in 2008 as a Maintenance Carpenter and progressed to one of our most senior Project Manager’s.  With lifetime of experience ranging from the military, to his stints making candles in Nimbin, Steve is the kind of guy you could write a book about.  He leaves Quadric to pursue his sea-change on the gold-coast, enjoy his grand-kids, and his amazing facilitator work in Men’s Wellbeing.

We’ll Make It!

With 40 years in business, Quadric has developed a formidable reputation as a Queensland Builder of choice.

In the 80’s, Quadric established our 1.5-hectare site at Salisbury which houses our joinery and partitions workshop. Controlling such a wide breadth of trades in-house gives us greater control over deliverables, providing certainty of outcome.

Hence, over many years, Quadric has developed a Vertically Integrated Construction Model. Retaining key trades in-house, we tackle the problems ourselves rather than pushing them down the supply chain.

Quadric has often been sought out to complete complex projects, which has further developed our internal project management skillsets in coordinating services and delivering highly specialised outcomes to laboratories, secure environments, and high-end retail / hospitality venues.

Our team are nimble in responding to Construction questions. “We’ll make it”, is often the answer.

“How can we deliver high end acoustic treatments to the doors?”

“How do we integrate partitions, joinery, and wall paneling?”

“The desks are made overseas and won’t make program?”

“The handles are too expensive”

Quadric: “We’ll make it”.

Interconnecting Stairs – Product vs Packshot

In this edition of Product vs Packshot, take a look at a before, during, and after shots of a staircase to interconnect levels of a corporate workspace recently delivered in Brisbane.  At Quadric we place great importance on making sure that the customer gets just what ‘it says on the tin’.  The reality must equate to the render.

Interconnecting staircases ensure connection between the floors of multi-level workplaces. Usually centrally located, they become a natural focus, providing the opportunity to create a striking architectural feature.  In this project, Quadric has brought to life an elegant staircase design involving a curved slab penetration. The result is a breathtaking staircase rising into a cavernous, curved void which opens like a natural part of the landscape.

The curved slab edges were moulded using a circular wiresaw producing super-tight edges with a 1.5mm radius. Constructing the architectural staircase required exceptional precision and accuracy, and was completed with a premium quality of finish.  The Construction involved removal of over 10 Tonnes of Concrete and Steel and the creation of 4 unequal corners creating an Isosceles Trapezoid Shape.

Many building companies take the approach of engaging a specialist stair builder to undertake such a sub-project, however at Quadric we have the requisite in-house delivery to manage and deliver such an undertaking at a quality and price-point which gives us the edge on our competition.  Trades involved include GPR Concrete Scan, the engineer approved catch deck, the curved concrete penetration, concrete disposal, complex structural steel shop drawing and installation, metal work, screening, curved glass balustrading, curved timber handrails, tactiles, nosing, bulkheads, and ceilings.

Quadric was proud to offer our technology, skills and expertise to create such a timeless outcome.  Stay tuned for full details on the completed project.
